Be Mad Men Inspired

Perhaps, it can be surmised that there hasn’t been a television production that has exerted so much influence in the fashion world than that of Mad Men. For the past few years, what I like to call “retro-chic” has slowly crept into the closets of tweens to 50-somethings alike.

Below, two great looks from Mad Men:

But, as a side note, this fascination with circa 1960, has not been limited to just the pieces of clothing and accessories. I would like to point out that that Fall 2010 has seen, though there have been splatters of it before in previous seasons, full- figured curvaceous models: from Torontonian- born Mark Fast to even Louis Vuitton, many  designers geared towards a silhouette that can be readily seen in any episode of Mad Men.

If you already haven’t jumped on the Mad Men inspired “retro-chic” bandwagon, Fall 2010 offers some great opportunities to do so. If you’re not ready to wear a head-to-toe outfit, which can be a bit intense (and perhaps not the wisest way to approach this trend), the best and easiest way is by adding touches through accessories, particularly eyewear.  From the “cat-eye” to the “browline” (think Club Master, by Ray- Ban) there is a style of eyewear that is sure to inspire even the most hesitant! I will not reject the assertion that these styles are currently the trend- they are! However, these styles are truly classics and will have a shelf life well past the current mode as they originate from an  iconic aesthetic.

The current trend stems from iconic styles!

The have been, they are, and they will continue to be cool!

It is hard not to find an eyewear collection that doesn’t have at least one element of this Mad Meninspired look. One of my favourite collections is by Oliver Peoples, they have been doing this vintage inspired look for over twenty- years, and they do it well! Tom Ford, Prada and Tory Burch also have some pieces to offer that are on point! So go out there and treat yourself to a fantastic new pair of “retro-chic” sun- or eyeglasses or both; it will help ease the summer to fall transition!
