Lisbeth in Leather

Hello my little MüddMag blog readers! Please let me introduce myself formally — my name would be Taylor (shameless self promotion moment: I wrote culture piece You Spin Me Right ‘Round for Mudd) and for my first post I’ve decided that I desperately need to talk to you about something.

I have an addiction.

But before we start calling Betty Ford clinics or enrolling me in 12 step programs, allow me to clarify for a moment.

I’m addicted to Lisbeth Salander.

(Yes, I do believe those are bullets around her neck)

Last winter I had the good fortune of seeing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, a movie out of Sweden that broke box office records, with a story that’s based off of a series of books written by author Stieg Larsson. And because I know all of you readers are completely clued into pop culture, fashion, and everything cutting edge, I won’t wax poetic on why the movie, or more specifically, Lisbeth rules. You already know don’t you?

The leather, the hair, the dark eye makeup, the piercing(s)… she’s so goth it hurts and yet I’m not mad at it. In fact, I may or may not have wanted to die my hair black and sport a nose ring after seeing the movie.

Ask Amanda, this would not have been a good look for me.

What I do want to say however, is the movie that I saw and loved is now being transformed and retold by the incredible David Fincher (the genius behind Fight Club, um.. AMAZING) and while there are no appearances by my beloved Tyler Durden (at least I don’t think there are) James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, has been signed as our male lead.

But the real news, the point of the post, is after months of competition and serious internet speculation, the new Lisbeth has been cast. Her name is Rooney Mara, a new face and an almost unknown, soon to be seen in The Social Network, also directed by David Fincher.

Let the dressing her up in amazingly bad ass leather jackets and eye makeup commence! I’m thinking this face might just be able to pull off the goth chic look I once craved for myself.

Will she fulfill my expectations as the new Lisbeth? Do I need a 12 step program afterall? Thoughts?

Love you little MüddMagger’s,

Taylor
