Habitat just took over an amazing 17,000 square foot retail location in the heart of Toulouse, France. The furniture company, started by designer Terence Conran, whose ambition it was to modernize the British furniture industry by offering contemporary pieces at affordable prices, opened the first Habitat Fulham Road store in London on May 11, 1964. Today, Habitat products are distributed worldwide and the company has over 70 retail stores.
The newest French retail store—open since September 2011—is located in the entry hall of the Grand Hôtel, a 111-year-old architectural gem with a 26-foot high glass ceiling recently restored by master glassworkers. The newly renovated space showcases the entire Habitat furniture and accessories line, as well as exclusive collections, and were designed to reflect Habitat’s unique signature: a successful blend of design, affordability and pleasure.
